Chico State ThrowersThe lives and times of the wildcat throwers April 19 Wildcats Triumph at the Border BattleThe Wildcats headed up to Ashland, Oregon this weekend to take part in the inaugural Border Battle. The Cats teamed up with the Humboldt State Lumberjacks and Destroyed the Oregon duo of OIT and SOU. The meet started with the women's hammer. The Senior women continued their sweeping ways by finishing 1-3 with Sarah Ward hitting the New School Record at 157'6", Katelyn moved into 4th all time at 152'7", Nicole finished 3rd with a throw of 152'3". Breezy finished 5th overall and Cheryl was 7th. The Men took over the hammer rings next, Jarvis won the event with a throw of 177' , Seth finished 4th with 139'6". The Shot Put was the next event and the Nicole took second with a throw of 42'10 3/4", Katelyn finished 5th at 38' 3/4", Cheryl improved her seasonal PR to 37'2" and Breezy moved back into the 36's. The Mens shot put was pretty dead competition but with the combination of M & M's, Chico Water and Orange Juice Jarvis was able to bust out a new PR of 57'9". This mark improves his Automatic qualifier by 6 inches. Seth finished 4th with a throw of 41'5". The Discus was the last event of the day. Nicole led the wildcats with a 3rd place finish, Katlyn , Sarah and Breezy finished 5th - 7th . Jarvis finished 2nd with a throw of 152' 2" and Seth finished 8th at 124'11". Way to go Cats and Jacks! Most of the Cats will be taking the next weekend off in Preparations for the CCAA championships. Javis and Nicole look to improve their NCAA qualifying marks at the Oregon Relays held at historic Hayward Field. . April 12 From Twilight to Midnight the Cats were in actionThe Wildcats hosted the Chico Twilight Invitational this weekend and had some wins, seasonal and lifetime PR's out of the event. The Cats begin on Friday by supporting the Distance Crew at the Friday Night Distance Carnival, Watching Jarvis get interviewed on the news and setting up the field. Saturday morning we took our team and throwing squad pictures. Had a slice at Celestinos then took a beautiful walk through campus. The womens hammer started the throwing events and the wildcats swept the event. Sarah finished first with a seasonal best of 152'8", Nicole was second with 148'5" and Katelyn was third at 146'3". Breezy finished 5th and Cheryl had a PR with a throw of 125'. The Mens Discus was next. Jarvis finished second with a throw of 153'8" and Seth finished 10th at 126'7" John Pack of Butte College had a Big PR and broke 150'1". The Ladies then took over the Discus ring with Nicole leading the way with a seasonal best of 136'11", Katelyn finished fifth with a lifetime PR of 125', Sarah finished 7th at 123'4". The Men's hammer was the next throwing event. Jarvis dominated the field with a mark of 178' 1". In second was perspective wildcat Eric Wright, currently at Shasta College, with a throw if 164'. Seth finished ninth with a throw of 137'4". The night continued to move on and the Shot Put took center stage. Jarvis continued his winning ways with a throw of 56' 8.5" nearly 7 feet further then the next competitor, Wildcat Alum Howdy Atkinson. Jarvis two warm up throws at 60 show that there is still a lot to come in the next moth. The Ladies Shot competition started at 10:15 and the wildcat women stepped it up. Nicole led the competition up until the 5th round with a throw of 43' 4.5" just short of her lifetime best. Katelyn finished 7th overall and had a lifetime PR of 38'4.5". Sarah and Cheryl finished ninth and tenth. The Wildcats head up to Southern Oregon University next weekend for the final competition before the CCAA championships. April 05 The Cats take it to the RiverThe Wildcats headed down to the inaugural American River College Invitational this past weekend. The weather was ideal for track and the sunburns were a plenty. The day started with the women's hammer. Sarah finished 2nd with a seasonal PR throw of 46.24, Nicole was 6th, Katelyn 7th, Breezy 11th and Cheryl 14th. In the men's hammer Matt finished 1st setting the meet record and improving his NCAA qualifying mark with a throw of 56.65, Seth finished 9th with a throw if 42.55. Best Wildcat impersonation = Jarvis Good things happened in the shot. The girls had some great warm up throws and are looking more competitive as we head into the final month of the season. Matt finished 1st in the shot as well. He is consistently pushing towards 60 and has a great shot of hitting it this weekend at home. Seth is also cranking up the intensity and is on his way to big throws on Saturday. Best Freshman Fake Smile= Tie, Breezy y C. Ridge This Friday and Saturday is the Chico Twilight Invitational. The Cats look forward to welcoming local universities and JC's to University Stadium. Throwing events start on 3:00 on Saturday. Come on out and witness history. Best face of the meet = Seth March 29 New top ten marks at the Stanford Invite The Wildcats headed to Palo Alto this weekend to take on the toughest competition of the year. Matt Jarvis finished 4th overall in the Invitational Shot Put with a throw of 57'3 1/2". This mark moved him to number 4 all time surpassing Tim Fua's and Howdy Atkinson's marks. Jarvis also had a very consistent Hammer series finishing 5th overall with all his throws over 175'. The Lady Cats focused on the hammer this weekend and Nicole finished 4th and Sarah finished 6th in a field of Division I schools. Nicole's mark of 154'2" also moves her to 3rd all time. Sarah's mark of 150'11" is a seasonal PR. Katelyn finished 10th and Breezy 15th overall. The Wildcats will be heading down to American River College this weekend and will be back to full strength with Cheryl and Seth ready to go. The day started with the women's hammer. Nicole, Breezy, Katelyn and Sarah were all over 140'. Sarah finished 8th over all and was the top D-II athlete in the competition. In the men's shot Seth hit a PR with a throw of 44'6". He is on his way to 45 next week. Jarvis finished 3rd overall with a throw of 53'2". The women then took control of the shot rings. The rain started coming down and the rings turned to ice, causing many of the competitors to freak out and slip. But not the Wildcats. Cheryl Ridge hit a Seasonal PR with 36'11 1/2" . Nicole hit the Provisional qualifying mark with a throw of 43'6 1/2" and finished 2nd in the competition. Way to go! In the men's hammer Seth had a second PR for the day and Jarvis was consistent at 173' and finished 5th overall. The Discus was the final event of the Day. Aaron saw his first action away from home and hit 116. On the womens side Nicole continued with a good day and went 135' and finished 5th overall. The Cats will be training hard this week and concentrating on the hammer for the Stanford Invitational. On the Van Ride home the Cats played the cleanest game of 10 fingers I've ever heard. Way to keep it "G" rated folks! March 15 Aggie Open = New top 10 marks! The Wildcats took the short drive to Davis this week to compete in the Aggie Open. We saw our first Division I competition of the year and competed well. On the Womens side Breezy made the top 10 list in the hammer with a mark of 146'3. Nicole and Cheryl also improved on their seasonal Hammer marks. Nicole, Katelyn and Cheryl had improvements in the discus. On the mens side Jarvis hit the Automatic qualifier for Nationals and moved to number 8 all time with his throw of 55'11" in the shot. Seth also PR'ed in the Shot hitting 42'9". In the Discus Jarvis had a lifetime PR hitting 153'7" Great Job to everyone! The Wildcats have Spring break this week but will be back in action running the Northstate Relays on Friday then competing on Saturday in the Hornet Invite at Sac State. The Girls at the Hammer Ring The Past, Present and Future of Wildcat Throwing! March 08 PR's Galore at the Gator Preview The Wildcats continued to build the 2009 season competing in SF. Despite less than spectacular meet management the Chico Throwers dominated the field winning 4 out of 6 events. The Women started in the Hammer. Senior Sarah Ward came in first with a seasonal PR of 150. Katelyn Clements finished in third with a throw of 148'2 and Breezy PRed with a throw of 134. In the men's shot Matt Jarvis continued improving his Provisional mark by hitting 55' 1 1/2", this also places him 10th on the all time top-ten list . Seth also improved to 42'2". The women then took over the shot ring. Nicole finished 3rd in the competition and Katelyn finished 4th. The Men headed to the Hammer ring. Jarvis destroyed the competition and moved up to 5th all time with a throw if 180'2". Seth's PR of 138'10" was good enough for 7th. The Discus throw wrapped up the competition. Nicole won the competition with a throw of 128'8" and Sarah finished 3rd. Jarvis finished second with a PR of 149'1" The Wildcats enjoyed watching the sunset over the stadium and cheering for our teammates in the dark. To celebrate the PR's and days victories the Cats went to Pier 39 and had dinner at Bubba Gumps. The Wildcats will be training hard this week and preparing to take on some D-I competition next weekend at UC Davis. See the full results of the meet here February 28 Wildcat Relays 2009 The Wildcats welcomed many of the Northern California Colleges and Universities to compete in the 2009 Wildcat Relays. Both Men's and Women's teams dominated by winning the Shot, Discus and Hammer Throw. On the Women's side the duo of Nicole and Katelyn won the Shot with a combined distance of 79'5", Nicole and Sarah won the discus with a distance of 245'8" and the hammer with a distance of 293'3". Also in the hammer Katelyn had a PR at 143'2" and Breezy PRed at 131'7" On the Men's side Matt and Jake Nelson won the Discus with a distance of 273'9", in the shot Matt and Seth went 94'10 1/4" and in the hammer Matt and Seth had a distance of 311'7". Matt also had provisional qualifiers for Nationals in the Shot with his mark of 54'3 1/4" and in the Hammer with his mark of 174'9". The Wildcats will be gearing up to compete next weekend at the Gator Open at SFSU. If you're in the Bay area next Saturday come on out and check out the Cats in action! February 21 Cardinal and White 2009 The Wildcats showed their international Flavor and competed in the 2009 Cardinal and White meet. The Cardinal led by Seniors Nicole Barbour, Katelyn Clements, Sarah Ward and Matt Jarvis were victorious with a score of 357 to 347. Good weather provided a great opportunity for the Wildcats to show where they are in preparation for the 2009 season. The Cats started this morning at the Hammer. The Womens competition was won by Sarah Ward with a throw of 145'9, Nicole was second with a mark of 142'6" rounding out the senior sweep was Katelyn Clements who hit 139'11". The Freshmen were led by Breezy Wallace with a mark of 129'2" and Cheryl Ridge who went 114'7". On the Men's side Matt Jarvis was victorious with a throw of 166'11" in second was Seth Stroing with a distance of 136"11" also competing was past and hopefully future wildcat Tom Jester with a mark of 162'3" A special thanks to Jon Michael Dilima, Joye Glassett, and Katrina Rodriguez who attempted to throw the hammer today. The second event of the day was the Shot Put. The women had the following marks: Nicole (39'11") Katelyn (37'8") Sarah (35'9") Breezy (34'9") Cheryl (32'3") To their credit the ladies all warmed up better then the marks show. On the mens side Matt Jarvis had a big PR hitting 56'1". Had this been a counted meet that mark would have moved him to 8th on the all time list. I think he will surpass that next weekend at home. Seth finished second with a mark of 41'8". ![]() After the Shot the Wildcats welcomed former School Record Holder Randy Watt. Randy talked with the group about being a wildcat thrower in the early 70's and gave some great advice for the upcoming season and life. The third event of the day was the Discus. Nicole won her second event and threw 123'7", Breezy took second with 118'3", Katelyn was third with 117'2" Sarah was fourth with 110'2" and fifth was Cheryl with 102'6" Matt won his third event and hit 130'7". Nicole and Matt won the meet MVP awards and the Senior ladies won the award for the best costume. February 13 Team Building Wildcat Style Today the Wildcats took their next step towards the conference championship by taking part in some team building activities. We got to learn more about each other by playing fun fact Bingo. Then we were broken into animal groups and performed a skit about that animal. We finished the afternoon by doing group Jump rope.
